Overall equipment effectiveness (OEE) is a measurement that reports the effectiveness of your manufacturing processes and operations. Overall equipment effectiveness quantifies how well a machine, manufacturing unit or assembly line performs relative to its designed capacity, during the periods when it is scheduled to run.
OEE combines the factors of Availability, Performance Rate and Quality Rate to provide a percentage number. It offers an easy to understand figure that can be applied to a single machine or entire factory floor.
OEE = Availability x Performance Rate x Quality Rate
In a perfect world your equipment would run 100 percent of the time at 100 percent capacity, with an output of 100 percent good quality. This would give the perfect figure of 100% but in the real world this is not possible due to inevitable losses. Many manufacturers benchmark their industry to set a challenging target of 85, although it has been reported many businesses struggle to achieve 60%.
Applied Integration UK Ltd have successfully designed and installed several automated OEE which collect the required data, calculate and report OEE in realtime as well as provide comprehensive machine downtime, analysis and reporting functions.
Whilst an OEE System alone will not increase productivity, the accurate real-time OEE and plant metric data collected and stored in the automated system, enables companies to make effective, quick decisions that improve overall efficiency and profitability
